Autumn 2

With our sessions turning chillier, this half term we have looked at fire lighting and shelter building. Some children have constructed their own dens and have returned to these week after week to make further improvements.  These have included adding a kitchen, a lookout tower, a telescope and even some interior design!

Other children have loved looking at and collecting autumn leaves.  We have been 'tree detectives' and tried to identify which trees the leaves have fallen from.  We have shared some great stories about the Autumn time around our campfires...whilst toasting marshmallows of course!

Autumn 1

This half term, Year 1 at Sutton, Year 2 at Catfield and mixed age groups at Hickling all started their Forest School sessions.

Each group set out ground rules that they thought were important and shared ideas of things they might like to do or were interested in.  These included playing games, collecting things, making things, building dens and bug hunting.

All groups enjoyed the early autumn sunshine and became more confident and independent as the sessions went on.  There were some wonderful 'awe and wonder' moments when the children found insects and looked at these closely to observe patterns and details.  Some children were inspired by the work of Andy Goldsworthy and created fantastic pictures using natural materials.  Mud play also proved a popular activity with all three groups!
